Last year I planted my garden as densely as was possible. I had to shoehorn in every plant and it was worth it for the effect, I love a garden to look full and maximal. I can't really do minimalism in any way, not in my home, or my garden, nor would I want to! Sadly with the very wet summer and the very cold winter I have lost most of these plants and am left with just a rose and a rosemary in this border. I have been looking through these photos to remind myself of what was growing last year in order to improve on it this year!
I love daisies and foxgloves as well as alliums together with lots of rosemary and grasses. This year I will attempt to plant a brighter palette of colours, perhaps putting together reds and pinks! I also have a few rusted iron stakes with glass balls on top which I stick in random places through the border. This year the massive Solanum had to be taken out as it had completely taken over the garden and was invading next door! I could not walk under the arch and the cats had created a hide-out den in it. So it had to go!
Thank you, for all your kind comments!
You have a wonderful garden! It looks very lush and colouful. Lovely!!
My Solanum died on me this last winter. It was huge and growing over an arch. I cut it down in the autumn - so between that and the cold - it just gave up - even here in London.
Have a wonderful time over Easter!

Emma, you can fly on over
and turn, what is now becoming,
a mud pile in my yard! I'm not a
gardener at all, at all. However, I
hope to change that this year! The
weather hasn't been all that great
to start planting anything yet. With
fingers crossed, maybe I can turn
all that brown to a more vivid array
of color! Hope you have a wonderful
weekend!

Personally, I'm in favor of latin names. I try not to be snobby or off-putting about it, but common names don't tell me much and they change so much from place to place. I use whatever name I use when I'm talking with my partner and then stick the other name, latin or common, in parenthesis.
Nice dense plantings.

Wow, I love your style!! In fact, it is my style too! :D
Alliums, Foxglove, Daisy, Salvia, Veronica, Verbena... The list goes on :)
It's a shame you lost much of your border, most of mine has survived (although there wasn't a great deal in the borders anyway as I've only been here a year.) I've noticed my Allium Christophii bulbs seem to have disappeared, very sad about that as I do love them.
